DUBAI ? A businessman was sentenced to three months in jail last week for offering a bribe of Dh10,000 to two police officers. The Court of First Instance, presided by Judge Al Saeed Bargouth, acquitted the Afghani businessmanof the charge of using liquor. He has been on trial on the charges of bribery and use of liquor.
He was accused of offering bribe to two policemen in February after he was arrested in a restaurant in the Gardens for harassing and insulting girls there few hours after midnight.One of the police officers said that they approached him and showed him their police identity cards. When they asked him to go with them outside the restaurant they realised he was awkward and smelling liquor.According to the arraignment sheet of the Public Prosecution, the defendant offered them Dh10,000 to make him go and not take him into police custody.
