UMM AL QUWAIN ? A 13-year-old Emirati boy underwent a surgery at Umm Al Quwain Hospital after being attacked and bitten by a wild dog in Umm Al Quwain on Friday. Abdul Rahman Yousouf Abdul Rahman was put under observation after the operation which almost took two hours. According to the surgeon at the hospital, the boy was put under observation to avoid being infected by rabies, as the cut was deep. This is the third such incident in the emirate this year.

The first happened when a young man who was jogging along the sea shore of the emirate got bitten by  a dog while the second happened when a boy got bitten by a dog near his house. The child was attacked by a pack of wild dogs, and was admitted to the hospital as the canines attacked, bit and left him with many wounds on his body.

“My son went  with his friends to walk in the open, and while they entered the Al Shabiyya Al Bidhaa district, they found themselves face to face with wild dogs,” the father of the boy said.

They ran away from the dogs, but the dogs chased them, he said. “Unfortunately my boy, who was frightened, fell on the ground and one of the animals bit him on his left leg.

His friends tried to drive the animal away, but they couldn’t, and the dog continued biting my son’s left leg leaving a deep cut. The dog, however turned away soon, and the boy was rushed to the hospital where he was operated upon,” he said.

“The dogs which attacked the boys could belong to someone who live in the district, and that was why I filed a case at the police station,” the father said. He presumed that the dogs were let loose by owners who did not want to look after them. Hence they would have turned to the wild. Such wild dogs pose a threat to people’s lives. The authorities concerned should put an end to the menace, he added.
